State Health Officer Mylynn Tufte today issued an order expanding on Gov. Doug Burgum’s executive order 2020-21 requiring individuals who are family or household contacts to quarantine for 14 days. To align with new CDC guidance, Tufte’s order allows for essential workforce exemptions for individuals who are household contacts of people testing positive for COVID-19.

“Every year, April is the time we honor history’s fair housing heroes and celebrate our nation’s civil rights progress. Though our national attention is now fiercely focused on overcoming the public health threat of COVID-19, the principle and promise of Fair Housing for All must still guide us,” said HUD Secretary Ben Carson. “There’s a fair housing hero in all of us...in the kindness and care toward a vulnerable neighbor, in the compassion and empathy for those who have contracted the virus, in the celebration of the tireless caregivers serving on the front line of the disease, and in the simple sacrifice made by the rest of us to stay home, stay safe and slow the spread.”

The North Dakota State Council on Developmental Disabilities is concerned about the added challenges the COVID-19 pandemic is creating for individuals with developmental disabilities, their families and the organizations providing services to them. Late last week, the council approved setting aside $15,000 in a COVID-19 Relief Fund to support time-limited projects that address unique needs and gaps in services.

In recognition of Child Abuse Prevention Month, the North Dakota Department of Human Services’ Children and Family Services Division and Prevent Child Abuse North Dakota (PCAND) have partnered with child advocate agencies in the state to host virtual events and activities beginning this week to help build stronger, healthier families during this stressful time.

State Health Officer Mylynn Tufte today amended an order originally signed on March 28 directing individuals to quarantine for 14 days if traveling back to North Dakota from all international locations and states in the United States. In addition, Tufte also clarified an order relating to individuals who have tested positive for COVID-19.

“As COVID-19 continues to spread across North Dakota, staying home as much as possible continues to be one of the best ways to reduce your exposure to COVID-19,” said Tufte.
