Mandan, N.D. – On Saturday, members of Morton County Law Enforcement outlined a plan to relocate away from the north side of the Backwater Bridge to help de-escalate the conflict. This morning, Cass County Sheriff Paul Laney briefed Law Enforcement about the commitment to follow through with those plans.

Law Enforcement will leave that area no later than 4 p.m today if protestors stay at the camp and off of the Backwater Bridge unless a pre-arranged meeting with Morton County is approved. The protestors cannot attempt to remove any barriers or wires from the bridge and they must not move north of the bridge by walking, riding or flying a drone. This includes trying to flank Law Enforcement on any side.

Adhering to these requests will reinforce protestors’ message of peaceful and prayerful gatherings. Violation of these requests will show that protestors have chosen to be aggressors by violating the law, and it will result in their arrest.
